A New Season is Here

A new season of Armadillo football is upon us. Time to take a look at the opponents and a recap of last year.

The opening game is against the Ballinger Bearcats at Rogan Field. The Bearcats won 39-7 in 2010. They lost several key starters at skill positions, but have a good team returning. The Bearcats were district tri-champs but ended up 3

Week 2 is the annual "Battle of the River" in Goldthwaite. Last year, the Eagles won 20-14 in overtime. It was the first overtime game in Goldthwaite history. Goldthwaite lost to Mart in the 1A, Division 1 championship game.

The following week has the Wall Hawks invading San Saba. The Hawks lost the Rasberry twins and some other key players, but, as with Ballinger, return several starters from the 33-24 victory in 2010. Wall finished 2

Hamilton is next on the schedule for the Armadillos in Hamilton. San Saba got their first win of the 2010 season, 27-0. The Bulldogs tied for 2

The final non-district opponent is the Lago Vista Vikings. This is Homecoming week for San Saba. The Vikings went 10-0 in the regular season including a 14-7 win against the Dillos in 2010 and advanced to the Division 1 semi-finals. They lost most of their starters but have some good defensive players back.

San Saba has an open week before starting play in 2A Division 2 District 13.

District play opens in Harper for the Dillos. The Longhorns just missed a playoff spot in 2010. San Saba defeated Harper 63-7. The game saw a 28-0 lead for the Dillos with 7:00 played.

District tri-champ Sonora Broncos come to Rogan Field next. The Broncos defeated the Dillos 34-24 in 2010 on their way to the playoffs before losing in the second round. The biggest loss for Sonora is Ethan Morriss, the all West Texas QB.

Coleman Bluecats hosts San Saba the following week. Coleman went 0-10 in 2010 including a 48-6 loss to San Saba but have a lot of good talent returning.

The Ozona Lions come to Rogan Field in the final home game of the season. Ozona is the remaining tri-champ from 2010 and lost in the first round of the playoffs. Lion running back Kyle Dean is the biggest loss from that campaign. San Saba won in Ozona 10-7.

The final game of the regular season is in Junction against the Eagles. San Saba won 66-14 in 2010. The Eagles lost their main running back but have good players returning on both sides of the ball.

The season is shaping up to be another good one for the Armadillos with another visit to the playoffs. Kick off is set for Friday night at 7:30 at Rogan Field against Ballinger.
