The 2011-2012 school year at Richland Springs started out on a hot note with air conditioners being tested as we continue to bake in the brutal summer heat. Thanks to the teachers and staff and students, we had a great first week of school, registering 137 students in grades Prekindergarten -12.

Thanks to the leadership from the varsity cheerleaders under the direction of Pam Starr, spirit is high at school. The cheerleaders have decorated the halls with class banners. The 2011-2012 cheerleaders are senior Stormi Davee, senior Courtney Herbert, junior Ashlyn Grady, junior Remy Wood, junior Brooklyn McGinty, sophomore Melanie Hedley, sophomore DeAnna Grady, and sophomore Taylor Terry.

The Coyotes looked sharp in their scrimmages last week against both Ogelsby and Throckmorton. Varsity football action will be Friday night at 8:00 p.m. at Zephyr stadium vs. Avalon. Please note the game time change from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Come watch the game Friday evening and support our athletes, and enjoy Zephyr’s new facilities. The Coyote football team looks State Bound with the Hammer Down.

Student handbooks were sent home this week with forms located in the front of the handbook that need to be returned to school during the first week. Students and staff will have a holiday on Monday, September 5th to celebrate Labor Day.

We have a great community, students, teachers and staff. It looks to be a great year at Richland Springs.
