It is not news to anyone that we have still not had any rain. More and more folks are getting rid of their cattle or buying hay if they can find it. We traveled out to San Angelo over the weekend and it is sad to see all the empty fields. There are no crops at all except the irrigated plots of cotton here and there. There is no maize.

We attended the 50th anniversary celebration for Santos and Nonie Elizondo last Saturday. It was a nice, catered barbecue attended by about 50 family members. Santos is not doing very well and he and Nonie need our prayers.

We had G.H. Suber and Debbie and Eugene Smith as visitors during the weekend. Debbie is Michael Suber’s sister. They live in Dumas and they say it is just as hot and dry up there as we are here.

I hear that Gloria Lusty is improving. She is a resident at Eventide Nursing Home while she has rehab. Hopefully she will be home soon.

We received more bad news from Ozona. My great niece, Melissa, age 37 , passed away suddenly last Saturday. She was the daughter of Arvin and Drucilla Mitchel. Her brother, Caleb, is out on a ship with the navy so the funeral arrangements are not definite at this time. Arvin just lost his sister, Oleta, about one month ago. We send our sympathy to them and plan to attend the services if possible.
