I’m writing this a little early. It appears that my computer is about to be ugly again. Twice in the last few days I have turned on the computer only to stare at lines of garble. That is not a good feeling! The main topic on everyone’s mind is our lack of rain and this extreme heat. The second most popular topic is the miserable state of our economy and our economic outlook. Both of those topics are enough to give you nightmares and heartburn! Of course the uncomfortable things about these issues are the solutions. There are no good or easy fixes to our economy. They will require sacrifice from many sectors. We demand solutions, but I can guarantee that if it came to sacrifices from our little corner, we would gripe. It’s time for the tough to get going. The weather is a different issue. We have no human means to change weather patterns, in spite of what the climate change people may think. Something or someone much bigger than us is going to have to change the wind and water currents. That’s why we keep praying for God to send us rain. He’s the only being capable of changing nature to that extent.
School started to mixed feelings on Monday. I say mixed, because although the kids are glad to be back with their friends; the call to work is not appealing in the least. The scrimmage Friday was horrendously hot. Our boys played a great game and easily won over Oglesby and Throckmorton. Since these will be teams we meet much later down the road; it felt good. There was a good turnout for the barbeque sandwiches. I had one after it was all over, and they were very good. Cold drinks were the request of the night. I think for two reasons. One reason was they were cold, and the other was you could get a little cold air when the window was open. I have to say I like football weather to be cool or cold, not hot. Good luck Coyotes and coaches.

If you’re looking for some hay, you might check with Bill Bryant. I haven’t heard back from my folks in Canada, but Bill seems to have a reasonably good source for this much needed food. This continued drought is shutting down family farms and ranches. That is an inconceivable thought.
Now that school is about to start so will all the church related activities. Kid’s Monday Church will begin September 12
The Starr and Foster family sent their sweet brother David Lee home to his dad and the angels last week. I enjoyed the graveside ceremony greatly. This has been a difficult year for the family; please keep them in your prayers and thoughts. Watch out for school kids crossing the streets. We have a long prayer list of urgently sick in the community. Please remember Paul Gibson, Woody Carroll, Robin Crisp and our home bound citizens as you pray for the rain we so desperately need. May God be with the families who have lost soldier loved ones recently. Please pray for our precious troops and their families, and may God bless America with a good soaking rain here in the South.
th grade will be in Irving on Thursday. I guess the report will have to be in next week’s paper. I don’t know about the kids, but the teachers and I are ready to go. As to that, we teachers are also ready for a great year. We are all miffed that we missed out on being a recognized campus because we needed one more commended student. I know several students from my classes who could easily have been commended, but they failed to reach their potential. We are going to have a great year this year, and I’m looking forward to putting that banner up over the door! So, those of you who know you should have been commended in at least one subject or more; let’s get it done this year.th. The Ladies Bible study and Quilting group will start September 7th. This year we are working from the Quick Trips quilting book and new study books have been ordered. FCA will also be starting at the beginning of September I believe. The Baptist Women’s Luncheon will be this Thursday at the Presbyterian Church in San Saba. The reception for Cason and Hollie Fikes will be Wednesday at 7:00pm at the Baptist Church in Richland Springs. Thank you to all the ladies who have brought me box tops. Moms, please be on the look out for box top products and send them with your student. Last year my class didn’t qualify for an ice cream party until the last week of school! We just need to do better this year!
