Thursday, August 18, 2011 • Posted August 18, 2011

The historic LanTex Theater has been providing entertainment in Llano since 1927. For many years, it was the place to be for local entertainment. Movies have always provided an escape in a weary world. Kids have enjoyed the Saturday westerns, cartoons, and serials, and through the years, has provided many first run movies. The Llano Country Opry is there with superior entertainment the second Saturday of each month. Many small towns have closed their theaters, but the City of Llano has continued operating the theater for benefit of the citizens of Llano.

This Friday night, August 19, at 7:30 and Saturday, August 20, at 4:00 and 7:30 all proceeds will go for needed repairs at the theater. The very popular movie will be Cowboys & Aliens.

Blockbuster film maker Jon Favreau directs Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford in an event film for this summer that crosses the classic Western with the alien-invasion movie in a blazingly original way. Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard Brian Grazer, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci bring an all new action thriller that will take audiences into the Old West, where a lone cowboy leads an uprising against a terror from beyond our world.

In 1875 New Mexico Territory, a stranger (Craig) with no memory of his past, stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of the town don’t welcome strangers and nobody makes a move on the streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford). The town lives in fear.

Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. They abduct the helpless one by one, and these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known.

Enter, the stranger, even though rejected by the town, slowly starts to remember who he is and where he’s been and realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting change against the alien force. He pulls together a posse comprised of former opponents, the townsfolk, Dolarhyde and his boys, outlaws and Apache warriors , who are in danger of annihilation. They are all united and prepare for epic showdown for survival.
