What a joy it was to see Bobbie Churchill arriving for the San Saba Ladies Golf Association business meeting August 4, 2011! Bobbie has had health issues but reported she is doing good and has a great attitude in her recovering treatments. Anita Miles, President, called the meeting to order and opened the meeting with prayer led by Hattie Rogers. Jo Anne Hardy, Secretary, read the minutes from June and July, as she was absent the last business meeting, and they were approved as read. Bobbie Churchill, Treasurer, gave the financial report. Sandee Hartley, 4-Ball Chair, reported there will be no 4-Ball for the month of August.
Becky Hardin reported that she is doing so good since her back surgery and will get to move back into her home this week. When she returned from surgery her house was flooded and the Hardins have been living at Ralph Wilson’s guest house. It pays to have good friend golfing buddies! Another perk of living in San Saba, Texas! I still remember when our house flooded and we lived at the Gilger’s cabin. Yes, there is nothing like a small town and live long friends!
Members present were: Hattie Rogers, Dorothy Sterner, Jo Ann Snow, Becky Hardin, Jo Anne Hardy, Bobbie Churchill, Peggy Jones, Janet Hoyt, and Anita Miles. The president once more presented her case a AGAINST starting at 8:00 AM but was ignored and the meeting adjourned for play day.
The Chair for August, Anita, called for a new game of "Badges". Each team was given a set of ‘badges’, and you were given a badge for your errors. The badges were: "Nuts" for hitting a tree, "Crab" for being in a sand trap or hazard, "Snake" for three putting, "Fish" for going in the water, and "Angel" for using bad language. And the winners were those with the least badges. And the winners were Jo Ann Snow and Sandee Hartley who had no badges after 18 holes, that doesn’t mean that they hadn’t received any they just managed to get rid of them by their opponent’s errors. Anita and Janet only had one badge each so they got a little of the prize money. Jo Ann Snow had a great round, she won the game, shot the Low Net for the day, won the "Putt" Pot, won the "Chip In Pot", and scored the only birdie of the day! Sandee Hartley scored the Low Gross for the day. Jo Anne Hardy played a few holes and chipped and putted the others and did very well! She has been having trouble with her knee, but perhaps it’s on the mend.
Anita Miles had a special guest, Miss Mia Adams, her granddaughter from Austin, Texas to come out and ride with her and watch the game. Mia has just finished taking the Law Bar Exam at Texas University Law School and is awaiting the results. The ladies were delighted to meet Mia, as she is a charming young woman. And Janet Hoyt, brought her niece, Hannah Hoyt, who also watched the ladies chasing that little white ball. She was a young teenager and had pretty red hair and great smile. We always enjoy guests!
The Ladies are preparing for the Fall Pecan Classic 4-Lady Tournament scheduled for September 10, 2011. You may enter your team at this time by calling Anita Miles at 325-372-3581. It is one of the favorite tournaments in the central Texas area and we have a great participation. The tournament will be sponsored by Mills County State Bank of Goldthwaite, Texas. That’s what I call being a good neighbor! We appreciate this generous gesture. The bank has sponsored this tournament for many years.
Lots of folks tell me they read this article every week and they don’t even golf. So I am flattered that they are interested, some living far away. So I need to spice this up some to keep up with Dwight Harkey.
Nah, I’m too busy "swinging!’
