4-H will begin a new year in September. Here are some frequently asked questions that may help your child decide whether he wants to join or not.

Who can join 4-H? Youth are eligible to participate in 4-H if they are 8 and in the 3

How do I join? Youth need to fill out a 4-H enrollment form and pay the $20.00 dollar dues at the San Saba County Extension Office or at a 4-H club meeting between August 1

Can I join 4-H if I am home schooled? Yes.

As a 4-H member, what do I do? You need to attend the monthly meetings. 4-H usually meets from September to April/May. At the 4-H meeting you will learn things, make new friends, and hear about upcoming 4-H projects and activities. The monthly 4-H newsletter also gives information about upcoming 4-H events, projects and activities. You choose what projects you want to participate in. The ones we usually offer in this county are archery, light rifle, food & nutrition, clothing, livestock show projects, photography, share-the-fun, and educational presentations.

Is there any additional expenses? Yes, the projects you do also influence what money you spend to be a 4-H’er. Livestock show projects include the cost of buying an animal, feed and registration fees for county and regional stock shows, if you choose to participate. A food & nutrition project includes the cost of 4-H Food Fun Day (usually between $5.00-$10.00) and food supplies to make and enter the co. food show.

How can I find out when the first meetings are? The meetings are announced at San Saba, Richland Springs and Cherokee schools. You can also call the San Saba County Extension Office at 372-5416 to get the date and time.
