Congressman Conaway holds town hall meeting in San Saba

The community of San Saba was invited to Pepperbelly’s Restaurant on Monday, August 8th at 12:00 noon to visit and have lunch with Congressman Mike Conaway. It was a legislative update and town hall meeting. Law enforcement officials, Sheriff Allen Brown and Chief of Police Ray Riggs escorted the Conaway group to the restaurant and Sgt. John Wilkerson and Deputy Zane McGehee stood guard at the door of the banquet room. Conaway was accompanied by his wife, Suzanne; mother, Jean; Regional Director, Nancy Watson and District Director, Rickey Wright.

CityTourism/Economic Developement Director, Tony Guidroz gave the blessing and City Councilman, Charlie Peeler welcomed everyone and introduced Conaway. The Congressman gave a short update on the country’s financial circumstances and debt increase. He stated that we were finally headed in the right direction with the passage of the recent bill.

Comments and questions from a group of 25 pertained to the war expense, social security, a balanced budget, price of fuel, energy supply, EPA regulations, foreign aid, tax rate, the economy, employment, higher medical costs, small businesses struggling and Highway UseTaxes.

Conaway’s closing remarks was that our country was founded on great men of faith that faced many challenges and he believes that the country today has many obstacles but will be able to make the choices to help all the situations in time.
