The Hungry Sheep
Thursday, August 4, 2011 • Posted August 4, 2011

It is not just sheep but all kinds of livestock and it is because of the severe drought we are having. Last week I bought a few bales of alfalfa hay and as I pulled up to the sheep pens I was attacked or should I say the trailer of hay was attacked. The sheep were hungry and they were reaching up and eating the hay before I could even unload it. They are not near death but they are sure hungry. Many ranchers have already had to sell all their livestock. In thinking about those hungry sheep it reminded me of something in the Bible. It speaks to two kinds of hunger. One is physical hunger or starvation and yes, there is a lot of it in our world. The other is spiritual hunger or lacking in the things of God. Just as there are many reasons or causes of physical hunger there are also many for spiritual hunger or starvation. Vast numbers of people are spiritually hungry and held captives by false religions and false teachers, (2 Peter 2:1, Luke 8:12). Big and powerful governments that enslave people to a certain false religion or not allowing any kind of worship or religion at all is another reason. But there is one other reason and that is many people just do not want God. Spiritual hunger is cured around the Word of God,(the Bible) and knowing Him, (Matthew 5:6, Isaiah 55:1-3, Amos 8:11-13). See you in Church next Sunday.
