Live Oak EE Club holds monthly meeting
Thursday, June 26, 2008 • Posted June 26, 2008

On Thursday, June 19, 2008 at 2 pm, the club members and several guests met for the monthly meeting of the Live Oak Extension Education Club.

Club President, Dorothy Gage, called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was given, followed by the club collect/prayer. Roll call was given with each person’s favorite ice cream flavor. Members present were Connie Ballinger, Dorothy Gage, Bertha Griffay, and Amanda Jackson. Wallace Creek Extension Education Club members were our guests and their members at the meeting were: Lynn Blankenship, Dr. Ella Burton-Pavich, Doris Cates, Jackie Doner, Imogene Hawkins, and Marilyn Miller.

Our guest speaker was Dixie Hewitt, who presented us with a wonderful program on antique roses. Dixie brought lots of great rose cuttings of every description and color from her garden and the building was filled with their fragrance. Dixie gave us lots to think about as she presented the history of antique and China roses, as well as some propagation tips for future gardening projects.

After the informative program, both clubs conducted a brief business meeting. Lynn Blankenship unwrapped the next fund raiser for the Wallace Creek Club, a beautiful quilt that they will be selling chances to win at upcoming community events. Lynn also gave all the members a report from the last Extension Education Council meeting, including plans and dates for district camp in August and the State meeting to be held in Corpus in September.

The meeting was adjourned to enjoy refreshments of summer fruits and iced peach tea.

Live Oak would also like to welcome two new members to our club: Jerylyn Davis and Myrna Najar.

The next club meeting will be held on September 15th at Wallace Creek Community building, where we will join them for their annual ice cream social.
