San Saba High School Varsity Cheerleaders attend Cheer Camp
Thursday, July 7, 2011 • Posted July 7, 2011

The San Saba High School Varsity Cheerleaders attended UCA Cheer Camp June 17-20 at Texas State University in San Marcos. The group did an outstanding job at camp receiving Superior Ribbons for all evaluations in Cheer, Chant and Extreme Routine.

UCA camps award spirit sticks at the end of each day of camp and additionally the coveted BANANA Award is given to the squad with the most spirit and best effort for the day. The girls won the BANANA on the second night of camp.

Additionally, our mascot, Marissa Anaya, received the MONKEY Award that same evening.

Camp Championships were held on the last day of camp. The girls received the First Place trophy in Cheer and the Second Place trophy in dance. The girls fell short of the overall camp championship losing to the outstanding squad from Taylor High School. The squad from Taylor was a truly amazing group from a 5A School from Alief ISD near Houston and they quickly became our friends leaving us with great memories from camp.

The Cheerleaders are coached by Elizabeth Chambers. Mrs. Susie Nettleship also attended the camp as a sponsor helping out in our search for gold ribbon and many other things.

Mrs. Chambers says of the group, "This is an outstanding group of young ladies who worked hard and wanted at all times to be the best squad there. I know that the good and the bad of this camp will help the girls put together another great year of spirit and encouragement for the school and the community. I am very proud of each and every one of these girls."
