Seaman Recruit Lyle Smith graduated from Naval basic training April 16 at Great Lakes Naval Station at Great Lakes, Illinois.

He is assigned to Pensacola Naval Airstation near Pensacola, Fl. to complete Naval avionics school. Lyle is the son of Nelson and Lindy Smith of Richland Springs and the grandson of the late Tom and Pug Cooksey of San Saba and Naomi Smith of Richland Springs and the late Nelson (Pete) Smith.

He graduated from Eastland High School in Eastland, Texas in 2002 and Tarlton State University in 2009. He has a 5 year old daughter, Danielle Smith of Big Foot, Texas, and 2 brothers, Damon Slaughter of Lake Dallas (formerly of San Saba) and Patrick Smith of Denton.
