On June 18-19 a couple of San Saba tennis players played in the Mason Tournament. Lauren Dawson came home with two second place trophies. In the quarterfinals of the 18 Girls Singles, Lauren defeated Justyn Cruz (Copperas Cove) 6-1,6-1. In the semifinals Lauren defeated Carley Chew (Mason) 6-2, 5-7, 10-4. In the finals Lauren lost to Amanda Reiley from San Antonio 6-1, 6-1. In 18 Girls Doubles, Lauren also won second place. Lauren teamed up with Amanda Hudson from Mason. In the quarterfinals Dawson and Hudson defeated Chew and Jordan from Mason 7-5, 6-4. In the semifinals Dawson and Hudson defeated Cruz (Copperas Cove) and Reiley (San Antonio) 6-4, 7-5. In the finals Dawson and Hudson lost to Ellebracht and Jordan from Mason 7-5, 6-2.

In 16 Boys Singles Marshal McIntosh was a quarterfinalist. In the round of 16 Marshal defeated Coby Velez (Mason) 6-4, 6-0. In the quarterfinals Marshall lost to the second place winner Craves Cowsar from Fredericksburg 6-4, 6-0.

The San Saba Tennis Association will be having a Junior Tournament on July 29-30. The deadline to enter is July 24

There will will also be a tennis clinic on July 18 thru July 21. Times are: 1 -3 grades 8 to 9 a.m., 4-6 grades at 9-10 a.m., 7-8 grades at 10 to 11 a.m. and 9 – 12 grades at 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Note that the times for the 9 – 12 grades have change from the original times of 7 to 9 p.m. to 10 a.m to 12 p.m. For more information contact Coach Cox at 372-8725 or email at rccox@centex.net.
