The Board of Trustees of San Saba ISD held a regular meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 13th in the Central Administration Office. President, Kim Kirk called the meeting to order, welcomed everyone to the meeting and established a Quorum with Trustee Susie Nettleship absent.
High School Principal, Woody Martin, gave the invocation followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.
Superintendent, Leigh Ann Glaze gave the following information:
A. The July School Board meeting will be July 19th at 6 p.m.
B. The PEIMS End of Year Enrollment figures information will be sent to the state.
C. A Budget Workshop is schedule for Tuesday, July 12th at 6 p.m.
D. The summer maintenance schedule was updated.
E. There was a review of the Health Insurance Programs.
F. The Grant updates included that Vision 2020 will end the last of June, and T3 ends in September.
G. Glaze gave a Legislative update, but it is not yet known what cuts will be implemented.
H. A required electrical costs and electric audit has been prepared.
I. There was a discussion regarding the student laptop insurance program.
J. The TASB Conference will be in Austin, September 30th to Oct. 2nd.
K. The 2012 preliminary budget report has been received from the San Saba County Appraisal District.
The following Consent Agenda was approved by the Board:
1. The regular minutes and executive session minutes from May 9th and May 17th.
2. Amended 2010-2011 budget.
3. Payment of bills.
4. The financial report.
5. Accepted a $500 anonymous donation to the elementary library.
6. Student transfers for 2011-2012 school year were accepted.
Assistant Superintendent, Michael Bohensky, gave re-test results and TAKS test dates; reported on the Cscope program; update on the STAR program and Summer School schedule.
Elementary Principal, Kay Shackelford reported 302 students plus 13 in Headstart; 96.68% attendance; the Math, Science, & Art Night was well attended; the 4th graders book project is completed; Water Day was a hit; awards and ceremonies for kindergarten and pre-kindergarten took place; teacher trainings were held the first week of June; 16 students are in summer school for 2 hours 4 days weekly; interviewing for a bilingual teacher; gave TAKS tests results.
Middle School Principal, Vicki Key, reported 191 students and a 96.01 average attendance; last week of school each grade had a swim party at Mill Pond Park; there was a 8th grade graduation ceremony; gave TAKS score results and the final percentages for 5th &8th grades; teachers attended 4 days of in-service; Middle School Cheerleaders participated in the Rodeo Parade and will be having a camp in town this summer.
High School Principal, Woody Martin, reported that their enrollment and attendance rate stayed the same as last month; the technology usage has enhanced the teaching and learning; in the rewards program students earned gift cards to Walmart; there was also incentives for perfect attendance each semester; gave information on students attending OFYP, and TAKS tests; will implement a Mentors Matters program this next school year and also an Academic Booster Club, and several project for fund raising; seven kids are off the "drop out" list with four more inquiring or waiting to take the test.
Action was taken on the following new business:
a. Approved ESC XV contracts for 2011-2012 school year.
b. Approved cafeteria prices for 2011-2012 school year with a 10cent increase from last year because of more federal regulations to be implemented.
c. The district has an extension on time limit for a bond, so they discussed a possible November Bond election.
d. Discussed some possible time changes for 4 year olds attending school.
e. Discussed the use of the Building Trades Facility.
f. Gave the first reading of the Valedictorian, Salutatorian and Honor Graduate Policy for changes and discussion.
President, Kim Kirk adjourned the meeting and announced a short break before the Executive Session. During the Executive Session the following teachers were hired: Tamara Auldridge, MS Science; Kathy Barfield, MS English Language Arts; Brandee Beck, Ele.- Pre-K 3 and early childhood.
