The San Saba Ladies Golf Association were the hosts for the monthly Traveling 4-Ball tournament on June 9, 2011 with twenty five participants.

Sandee Hartley, the 4-Ball Chair, welcomed the ladies and they were served coffee, juice, and donuts. During play the ladies were served peanut butter and crackers and ice tea. Keith Harris, the San Saba Pro, read the rules and called for tee off time. We could not do without Keith. He does all the pairing and card preparations and water and anything he is asked to do. He is a real asset to the San Saba Ladies Association, as well as the San Saba River Golf Course!

After play the ladies were served a delicious chicken salad and crackers and the traditional pecan pies made by Betty Ann Johnson, our very faithful caterer that we always count on. We appreciate all Betty Ann does for the Ladies Association.

Bobbie Churchill was present as our treasurer to take up the entry fees and pay the expenses. Although Bobbie doesn’t get to play she is a viable member to our club. Pat Ribb joined the ladies for lunch, another member who can no longer play but remains a long time member for the joy and fellowship of the organization.

San Saba made a great showing:

Dorothy Sterner - First place team

Shirley Harden - Second place team

Hattie Rogers - Third place team

Anita Miles, Sandee Hartley, Becky Hardin - Fourth place team

Janet Hoyt and Jo Ann Snow had fun teams but alas, no wins.

All the players remarked on the beauty of the San Saba River Golf Course. The City has done such a remarkable job of making it a real asset to the city of San Saba, in conjunction with our team of grounds keepers. It’s worth your time to take a scenic drive to the golf course. It is a thing of beauty!

It’s a constant regime of fertilizing and planting and then cutting and trimming and mowing! It is nature at it’s best, enhanced by man. And then we get the sheer joy in this beautiful surrounding to just keep on ‘swinging!’
