Several band students traveled to UIL State Solo & Ensemble this past Monday. Ryan Guidroz played "Funky Fat" on the snare. Ryan received a division I (superior rating) and a gold medal for his performance. Ryan earned a division 3 (average rating) last year. Congrats on his improvement!

Senior band member, Nick Tasker, played "Canon in D" on the alto sax and received a division 2 (excellent rating) and a silver medal for his performance. Nick and Ryan have each gone to State Solo & Ensemble two consecutive years in a row.

Tanner Hawkins played "Song of the Pines" on trumpet and received a division 2 (excellent rating) and a silver medal for his performance. This is Tanner’s first year to advance to State.

Nickie Ortiz played "Syrinx" on Flute and received a division 3 (average rating) for her performance. Nickie joined Ryan Guidroz as only the second freshman to advance to state solo and ensemble from San Saba. She will have many years to grow from this experience.

A saxophone trio consisting of Nick Tasker, Joely Haverland, and Andrea Jiminez played "Andante and Allegretto" and received a division 2 (excellent rating) for their performance. Andrea is the only 8

All students received great comments from some of the most prestigious musicians and teachers in the State of Texas. State Solo & Ensemble is quite a bit more challenging than Region solo & ensemble, and some of the most talented high school music students in the state are at this contest, including our very own students.

These students must memorize very challenging music and play at a collegiate level to receive a medal. Very few superior and excellent ratings were awarded. We are very proud of how well our band students represented the San Saba band program at Texas State Solo & Ensemble! These students are to be commended, and we look to build on this great success next year.

th grader from San Saba to ever advance to State Solo & Ensemble in any category!
