Thursday, June 2, 2011 • Posted June 2, 2011

Sam Houston State sophomore, Shelby Hardy is one of five student-athletes who have been named to the 2011 Academic All-Southland Conference women’s golf team. Hardy is a kinesiology major with a 3.05 GPA. A native of San Saba, Texas, Hardy led the Southland with eight top 10 scores including medalist honors at the Houston Baptist Intercollegiate.

A first-team all-conference selection, Hardy ranked second in the league with a 75.4 stroke average in 31 rounds, the second lowest single season average in Bearkat women’s golf history.

The other members of the Academic All-Southland honor squad include Stine Pedersen of Lamar, Paola Valerio of UTSA, Julia Roth of Central Arkansas and Ryann White of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Each member makes their first career appearance on the all-academic team.

The Academic All-Southland teams are voted on by the head coaches, sports information directors and academic advisors from each Southland Conference university. Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s competition to qualify for the all-academic squad.
