Thursday, May 26, 2011 • Posted May 26, 2011

The Lampasas County Higher Education Center in partnership with Express Training LLC is currently offering a Certified Nurse Aide Training programs (CNA) this year. Express Training Services LLC has previously trained a group of eight Lampasas area residents who graduated in February, passed their certification exam, and six of those eight are employed locally in the industry. The current class, which is being held at the Lampasas County Higher Education Center, will graduate on Friday. Instructor Mary Lee, LVN said that the "Lampasas students are motivated and have excellent retention. These are some of the best classes I’ve had all year."

The healthcare industry is rapidly expanding, and along with this expansion come several rewarding career opportunities. One healthcare-related career is in the area of direct care giving. This career is also known as "Certified Nurse Aide" or CNA (usually applied to caregivers in a nursing home or hospital setting), "Personal Care Attendant" (a term often used for caregivers in an assisted living facility), and "Home Health Aide" (direct care giving provided in patients’ homes).

Express Training was founded 2004 by Sherri and Tony Kalishman. Sherri and Tony have been in the health care industry for many years. They understand that many people who would love to start a career in health care choose not to take the first step for a variety of reasons, the most common being the time it takes to get trained and prepared properly. Express Training Services works with anyone who is motivated to pursue a career in health care and make a difference in people’s lives. Everyone at Express Training Services believes that there is no such thing as a "throwaway" student. They offer tutoring and additional sessions for all students free of charge.

According to Dr. S. Chuck McCarter, chief operating officer of the Lampasas County Higher Education Center, "There are a number of local employment opportunities for someone trained as a CNA. Just check the local paper."
