San Saba City Council canvasses election votes

The San Saba City Council met on Tuesday, May 17th at 5:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers. Mayor, Ken Jordan, called the meeting to order, announcing a quorum with Council member Oleta Behrens absent. Councilman, Shawn Oliver, gave the invocation followed by everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.

The City Council election of May 14th was canvassed and the final results are: Shawn Oliver, 190; Marvin Riggs, 180; Charles Peeler, 184; Mark Amthor, 263; Travis Shaw, 138; Javier Baez, 87.

The newly elected officials, Shawn Oliver, Charles Peeler and Mark Amthor will be sworn in on Friday, May 20th and formalities will be during the June meeting.

The Employee of the Month award was presented to Sabrina Berryhill, who started working in the office at the City Hall during High School part-time and has worked full time for three years.

The Supervisor of the Quarter award was presented to Jerry Turner, who has worked at the Golf Course for 38 years. Both award recipients received a $25 gift certificate at a local restaurant, a day off with pay and their name on a plaque.

The following agenda items were approved:

1. Minutes from the April 12th council meeting.

2. Payment of bills presented to City Council.

3. Resolution No. 2011-07 to waive an ordinance defining noise nuisances for June 4th at Risien Park.

4. Resolution No. 2011-08 to waive an ordinance defining noise nuisances for June 25th at Mill Pond Park.

5. Resolution No. 2011-09 to waive an ordinance defining noise nuisances for June 25th at Risien Park.

After a short discussion on Action Item #1, Resolution No. 2011-06 was approved authorizing a Hazard Mitigation Plan Update for the Texas Colorado River Floodplain Coalition.

The 2010-2011 Budget Calendar was discussed and approved on Action Item #2.

Mayor Jordan announced an Executive Session and the meeting would reconvene to Open Session. Approximatley 15 minutes later, it was announced that there was no action taken during the Executive Session and the Council meeting was adjourned.
