Elections – Elections are to be won and lost….it is the democratic process. However, this means there is a winner and a loser and losing means disappointment. Speaking on behalf of the students and the staff at San Saba ISD please know that we appreciate the efforts of those who advocated on our behalf on and leading up to the May 14, 2011 election. We thrive on the encouraging words and the fierce support that was demonstrated in the name of students. Encouragement goes a long way with students and staff.

As an administration and school board of trustees we make difficult decisions everyday that are built around what is good for all students, but sometimes unpopular with the public. Students are at the core of our decisions while keeping in line too with what is best for our community. It is a delicate balance between what is needed to be done in the name of students and for students, for future generations and what our community believes they can support. We have to keep in mind that "someone" laid the ground work for us, someone built those buildings for us and it is our responsibility to make certain that the current students and the generations to come will have adequate space to be safe and have an environment in which to thrive. The elementary school, the science labs and the renovation of the red gym for the band hall are the basic needs of our District. There are many more. But through a 3 year study of the needs, we determined these were our top priorities and we sat out to find a way to fund it that would be the least intrusive for our taxpayers. In the past, we have worked to limit the burden to our tax payers by partnering with the city, applying for grants, cutting back on operations, and saving to build a fund balance to pay for projects, so that we can fund capital projects in a fiscally prudent manner. It is our intent to always keep the patron’s contribution in equation when making such important decisions. The administration and school board will meet and prioritize and determine the next steps. The election is over, but the building needs of our District still exist. We welcome your input, your thoughts and always encourage you to talk to school personnel about your concerns. Working together we can come to a conclusion that is best for all.

Kudos to our Band Program – The band concert that was held Monday night at the First Baptist Church was a huge success. Our students are becoming true musicians. It takes a great deal of practice and dedication to learn to play an instrument and to play it well. Great job students, Mr. Sours and Mr. Messer!
