Eta Omicron Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma International
Thursday, May 19, 2011 • Posted May 19, 2011

Eta Omicron Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma International met on May 9, 2011, in the second grade classroom of member Virginia Hamilton in Kline Whitis Elementary School in Lampasas. Three members from San Saba and four members from Lampasas attended. Hostesses were Mrs. Hamilton, Carolyn Butts, and Shelley Meyers.

Following the serving of refreshments, Mrs. Hamilton presented the program on New Technology Advances in the Classroom. She demonstrated her Smart Board and how she used it with her students. She projected items, lessons, textbook pages, etc. on it illustrating its advantages in teaching the second graders who could write directly on it doing math problems or practicing writing cursive letters, etc. With just the touch of her finger, she could change what she was showing, enlarge it, or move it around on the screen. She also demonstrated how she could do searches by subject and/or grade level on her Smart Exchange.

Mrs. Hamilton had spent hours doing material to use with her technology in her classroom. Not only could she teach facts, etc. but she could also teach discipline with it as the students were so anxious to be the one who got to write on the Smart Board.

President Julia Phillips distributed Membership Biographical Data sheets to be completed and returned to her. Chapter meetings attendance, finances, and dues were discussed extensively. A meeting was set for Monday, September 12, 2011, at 5:30 p.m. in the home of Mrs. Hamilton in Lometa. At that time further serious discussion will take place to decide the future of the chapter. If those members present decide to continue the chapter, dues will be collected. A good attendance will be necessary. Hostesses will be Ms. Phillips and Lavada McCoury who will assist Mrs. Hamilton. The Chapter was chartered in September 1964 so the meeting will also celebrate its birthday. Four Charter Members from the forty-four original charter members still remain: Mutsu Crumley, Lillie B. Marley, Norma Sue McCann, and Wannah Taylor.

The meeting adjourned with the singing of the Delta Kappa Gamma song.
