"Rio" to benefit the Lan Tex this week-end
Thursday, May 19, 2011 • Posted May 19, 2011

For several years, the LanTex Theater has been operating on the week-ends at very low prices for the benefit of the citizens of Llano. Many organizations have movies there to benefit their fund raising projects , as well as our having the Llano Country Opry there once a month. This Friday night, May 20 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday May 21, at 4:00 and 7:30 p.m. the proceeds of the movie RIO will benefit the LanTex to ensure that it will remain open and make several needed repairs.

This animated musical comedy is produced by Blue Sky Studios, and stars the voices of Jesse Eisenburg, Anne Hathaway, George Lopez, Jermaine Clement, Jake T. Austin, and Jamie Fox.

RIO, of course refers to the Brazilian city of Rio de Janerio in which the film is set. The plot tells the story of Blu, a spix’s macaw who is taken to Rio to mate with a female. However, he is caught up in the middle of smugglers who want to capture exotic birds. To help in the authenticity, the crew visited macaws of the Bronx Zoo to study their movements. This is a very colorful enjoyable film for everyone.

One dollar off coupons will be available at the banks, restaurants and stores. The last chapter of 1940’s serial, The Black Whip will be shown. As always, we will have lots of hot popcorn, candy, and sodas.

Hope you will be at the theater this week-end to help in the continuing operation of our very historic LanTex Theater. Not too many communities can boast that they still have an old theater that's been operating since 1927.
