Shelby Hardy is a First team selection and Meghann Stevens earned honorable mention honors to give Sam Houston State two student-athletes on the 2011 All-Southland Conference women’s golf team. Hardy, a sophomore from San Saba, has earned all-conference honors for the second year in a row. She was a second team selection as a freshman in 2010.

The Bearkats’ leader in stroke average again this season, Hardy came within one onehundredth of a percentage point of tying the all-time Sam Houston single season stroke average record. In 31 rounds this year, she produced a 75.45 average. Stefanie Page holds the record with a 75.44 average in 32 rounds in 2006-07.

Hardy won the individual medalist championship at the Houston Baptist tournament, was the runner-up in the Louisiana-Monroe Fall Classic and placed third in the Centenary Ladies Invitational. She placed 4th at both the Sam Houston Invitational and the University of North Texas tournament. Overall for the 2010-11 season, Hardy posted five top 5, three top 10, and two top 20 individual finishes while leading the SHSU women to two wins, three runner-up, and two 3rd place team finishes. Hardy led the Southland Conference with her eight top 10 scores. At the Southland Conference tournament in Corpus Christi, Hardy placed 17th in the final individual standings.

Additionally, Shelby Hardy was named the Southland Conference Women’s Golfer of the Month for the month of April. Hardy joins UTSA sophomore Paola Valerio as the only two-time player of the month winners this season and finished with the second lowest scoring average in the conference for the entire season with her 75.45. Finally, Hardy was named the Sam Houston Bearkat women’s golf team MVP for the second season in a row
