Masonic Lodge meeting

San Saba Masonic Lodge No. 612 will hold its stated meeting on Saturday, May 7th. A meal of barbecue chicken and ribs will be provided by the secretary and served at 6:30 p.m. Members are asked to provide a complimentary covered side dish, bread, salad or dessert.

Lodge will open at about 7:00 p.m. The charter will be draped in the memory of three Freemasons that have recently died; John Holland Bannister, Dermont Oliver and John Thomas Shires.

Brother Bannister was born 24 September 1922 and was made an EA 25 March 1950, FC 13 June 1950 and MM 18 July 1950 in Old Ocean Lodge No. 1284, Sweeny, Texas. He was an endowed member of that lodge and affiliated with San Saba Lodge on 4 May 1991. Bannister served as Treasurer from 1995-1997 and as Secretary from 1997-2000. He died 16 April 2011.

Brother Dermont Oliver was born 29 September 1925 in Williamson County, Texas and was made an EA 13 April 1959, FC 17 August 1959 and an MM 18 September 1959 in Yellowhouse Lodge No. 841. He served as Worshipful Master of Las Moras Lodge No. 444 and as District Deputy Grand Master of District No. 43 from 1982-1983. Oliver affiliated with San Saba Lodge in 2002 and was also an endowed member. He passed away 7 April 2011 at the Veterans Hospital in Oklahoma City, Ok.

Brother Shires was born 28 October 1934 in Hopkins County, Texas. He attended San Saba schools and was an active member of the DeMolay Chapter No. 2082. He was made an EA 11 February 1956, FC 30 March 1956 and an MM 5 May 1956 in San Saba Lodge No. 612. In 2005, he received his 50 Year Service Award from the Grand Lodge. He died Friday, April 21st at Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

After the memorial service and regular business, work will be conducted in the Fellow Craft degree. The membership is reminded to provide their community service hours to the secretary. Copies of historic information about the lodge will be presented to all members in attendance as San Saba Lodge continues to celebrate its 125 year anniversary. All Masons are encouraged to attend.
