Masonic Lodge to host Annual High School Seniors Banquet

The ladies of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 191, the Freemasons of San Saba Masonic Lodge NO. 612, and the San Saba Scottish Rite Club, will host the annual Seniors Banquet on Monday, May 2nd. This is the 21st year for the annual occasion, which will be held a the Masonic Lodge Hall, just east of town. A meal of fried fish will be served with freedom fries, hush puppies and beans. Members are asked to please bring a covered side dish, salad, bread or dessert. The honored guests are the graduating seniors of Cherokee, Richland Springs and San Saba high schools. Supper will be served at 6:30 p.m. sharp and seniors are asked to be prompt.

After the meal, a short program will be presented to the senior class. The guest speaker this year is Dr. Robert A. Northcutt, 33º of San Marcus, TX. Dr. Northcutt is a graduate of Luling High School. He attended the University of Texas and earned a BA, MA, & Ph. D. in mathematics. He taught at San Antonio College for two years and Southwest Texas State University (Texas State University) for 42 years. Northcutt served as chairman of the Mathematics Department for nine years and retired in 2006, recognized as a Distinguished Professor Emeritus in 2008.

Northcutt has been extremely active in the Masonic fraternity and in particular has devoted much of his life to the charities of the Scottish Rite. Presently he serves as Personal Representative of the Austin Valley Scottish Rite. He is involved with the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital For Children in Dallas, the Austin Scottish Rite Learning Center, and the Austin Scottish Rite Children's Theatre.

Dr. Northcutt will address the senior classes and present a program "Challenge and Success: What it Takes!" Each and every high school senior should make plans to attend this special event as the lodge takes this opportunity to honor and recognize the graduating class of 2011.
