San Saba JV Baseball played at Bangs
Thursday, April 21, 2011 • Posted April 21, 2011

Last Friday, our JV team played the Bangs Dragons JV squad. The wind was howling on this day. Our batters got a runner on in the first, but no runs scored. We got runners on again in the second inning and one scored. Players hitting the ball were Russell Lowe, Wil Sloan with a double, Kelan Verette with a double, and Dusty Parum with a single and also scored our team’s second run later in the game.

Josh Wright took the mound and did what a pitcher has to do which is throw strikes. The good Dragon hitters did hit some balls into play. Again, the wind made fielding fly balls an adventure. We also did not properly field some ground balls, which allowed Bangs to plate eight runs in the first inning when it should have only been two. In some later innings, it was more of the same and the wind kept wrecking havoc on our ability to focus and make plays. Eventually, Josh Wright was replaced by Kelan Verette on the mound. Our defense continued to make some plays, and boot some rather easy plays.

All together, Bangs won the game by a score of: San Saba-2, Bangs-14. The Dragons have not lost a game in district on the JV level as well. The loss and a Hamilton forfeit by not having a JV, drops our record to 13-5-2 on the year and 9-2-1 in district play. Our last two games will be at home on Friday at 4:30 against the Coleman Bluecats, and again at home on the following Friday, April 29, at 4:30 against the Hico Tigers.

Thank you for your support throughout the baseball year, we appreciate it very much!
