A Luminaria Ceremony for cancer survivors (anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer) and in memory of those lost to the disease will take place at Relay For Life of San Saba County. Bags containing lit candles will be placed around Risien Park, while participants walk a lap by the light of hundreds of candles. Anyone wishing to purchase luminaries for a loved one may pickup a form at Arrowhead Bank or purchase at the event.

Relay For Life is an overnight event increasing cancer awareness while raising much needed funds for the American Cancer Society’s programs and services for the local community. Teams composed of people from local companies, clubs, neighborhoods, schools and families have been raising funds for the past few months. At the Relay, team members take turns walking around the track, relay-style. Participants camp-out and enjoy music, entertainment and food while building team spirit to help in the fight against cancer.

Chairperson, Michele Whitley said, "This is an awesome event with outstanding Relay Teams who have worked extremely hard to fight back against cancer. However, the community is a vital part of helping us reach our financial goal. I invite and encourage each of you to join us for dinner, the opening ceremonies and the Luminaria Ceremony. Bring your cash and help us celebrate, remember and fight back. We will be there all night, you are welcome anytime."

2011 Relay For Life of San Saba County will be held on April 15 & 16 at Risien Park. Delicious foods prepared by the Relay Teams will be available for sale beginning at 5:00 p.m. The Opening Ceremonies will begin at 6:00 p.m. with the Lighting of the Luminaries about 9:00 p.m. There will be local entertainment and games throughout the night to keep the visitors and teams fired-up and moving!
