Shelby Hardy get first college win

In their final tournament before the Southland Conference championships, the Sam Houston State women’s golf team finished as runners-up in the Houston Baptist Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday, April 4th & 5th. The tournament was played on the par 72, 6,138-yard course at the Sienna Plantation Golf Club.

The Bearkats’ Shelby Hardy won the individual medalist championship, firing a four-over total of 73-72-75—220. She earned the trophy with a seven-stroke margin over runners-up Stine Pedersen of Lamar and Jessica Schiele who both shot totals of 227. SHSU’s Meghan Stevens also placed among the top 10 individuals with a 79-76-79—234 total.

Sam Houston held a five-stroke lead going into the final round but Lamar shot a final round 308 while the Kats came in with a 319, giving the Cardinals a six stroke victory. SHSU’s final team total was 308-312-319—939 while Lamar earned the trophy with a 314-311-308—933 score. Houston Baptist was third at 948.

Other Sam Houston finishes and scores were Landa Stewart 18th 77-82-83—242, Meghan Musk 25th 79-82-84—245, Jessica Borth 40th 80-90-82—252 and Jenna Stene 47th 81-91-86—258.

Sam Houston now begins preparing for the Southland Conference championship tournament to be played April 18-20 in Corpus Christi.
