Treasure Island

Kyla listened to Treasure Island. This is her summary of the story. The pirate that was staying at the boys’ motel got sick and kept drinking (rum) and died. The boy and his mom found the treasure map. The pirates, the boy, the doctor, the Captain, and Long Silver who had one leg took a ship to find the Treasure Island. The problem of the story was the treasure. The treasure was the problem because the pirates wanted the treasure and the boy wanted the treasure. The pirates were after the boy on Skeleton Island because the little boy wanted the treasure. The boy fixed the problem of the treasure by tricking the pirates. The boy teased the pirates by moving the ship to the other side of the island. He thought he could get the treasure first and they would be mad at him. The good guys of the story were the boy, the doctor, and the Captain of the ship. The bad guys were the pirates because they were pirates. Pirates are bad because they steal and kill people. My favorite part of the story was the parrot because he said "pieces of eight, pieces of eight". I think Elliott and Hannah would like Treasure Island but I don’t want to give it to them because I still like it and want to read it again.

Beowulf

This book is about a young man by the name of Beowulf. One thing unusual about Beowulf is that he loves playing with bees. That is why he is named Beowulf which means "The Bee Hunter." Hrogra is the king of the land of which Beowulf lives. There is one huge problem-a hideous creature named Grendel. He lurks and makes the sound of crackling bones as he walks looking for human flesh. This book was published in 1968 by Robert Nye. The original Beowulf was written during medieval times. If you are interested in the Middle Ages and lots of action, then Beowulf is the book for you.
