Go Fly a Kite
Thursday, April 7, 2011 • Posted April 7, 2011

Recently, I bought Cyndi and myself each a kite. Last week it was windy so we went out to fly our kites. I have not done that in so many years that I cannot even remember.

My kite had a thin string that came with it. After being up in the air for a few minutes the string broke and the kite flew away. I was able to retrieve it and tied a stronger string to it. We went from our back yard that has trees in it to the football field across the street. The trees kept attracting the kites and we had to get them untangled.

At the football field the kite I had soared. Up and up it went till I got to the end of the string. That kite stayed up there flying in the windy weather. Cyndi, who had a shorter string than mine, had a hard time keeping it up but she did for a while. Needless to say, we had fun.

Standing on the football field flying the kite kept me looking up. I thought about the Creator of our Universe and the things He constantly does for us. It was such a big sky and a small kite.

When the kites got hung in the trees or took a nose dive all of a sudden, I thought about the problems we face in life. Our lives are going well, everything’s okay, then here come the trials and testing to keep our faith strong. James said to "consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials." (1:2) It’s hard to be joyful in times of trial but if we keep our faith, God will bring us through it. If you are facing a hardship in any way at this moment, don’t give in—trust in God to bring about deliverance.

The kite and string I had was extremely light. But when it got up in the sky, there was a strong force pulling it that made it seem much stronger. Our God is a strong force. He is strong enough to take care of us when we are lonely, hurting, sad, depressed, worrying, jobless, homeless, etc. The problems we have look like Mount Everest. In God’s eyes they are as the mustard seed.

I had fun flying the kite with my wife. I was reminded again of the awesome God who loves His creation, even when they have struggles. He’s there for all of us
