Angelo State University sets Record-Breaking Enrollment

Angelo State University set a new all-time record for enrollment for the 2011 spring semester taken on the 20

ASU President Dr. Joseph C. Rallo said, "Our spring enrollment totals once again reaffirm that Angelo State is on a proper course as we look toward the future and our goal of a 10,000 enrollment by the year 2020. While we still have work to do, we are ecstatic that our recruiting, retention and marketing strategies are showing consistent results."

Rallo noted that the record graduate enrollment reflected ASU’s ongoing efforts to increase online course delivery. The continued growth both in graduate and undergraduate enrollment will help provide additional resources from the state and will provide greater flexibility for the university to meet budget challenges at the state level.

Texas Tech University System Chancellor Kent Hance said, "We are excited about Angelo State’s record spring enrollment at both the graduate and undergraduate level. Increasing enrollment is vital in securing additional state funds, and this continued growth reaffirms that the university is moving in the right direction under the leadership of President Rallo and the hard work put in by his team."

In the College of Graduate Studies outside of the ASU campus, classes are web-based consisting of four major areas of study, Curriculum & Instruction, Teacher Education, Communication, and Nursing. Within the department of Curriculum & Instruction offerings include a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction, Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling, Master of Arts/Sciences in Interdisciplinary Studies, Master of Education in School Administration (Principal), and the Master of Education in Student Development and Leadership in Higher Education.

The department of Teacher Education offers these graduate degrees and certifications, Master of Education in Educational Diagnostics, Master of Education – Reading Specialist, Master Reading Teacher Certification Program, Master of Education in Special Education, Certification in Special Education, Master of Education in Professional Education and Graduate Level Initial Teacher Certification for Elementary Education.

Dr. Lana Marlow, assistant professor of communication and graduate advisor explains the Master of Arts in Communication degree as, "useful to students advancing their careers in a variety of industries (human resources, training and development, health care, management, marketing, public relations) with a focus on interpersonal communication, team work, organizational leadership, culture, communication technology and more."

Within the department of nursing programs include the Licensed Vocational Nurse to Registered Nurse Hospital Partnership, Master of Science in Nursing, Registered Nurse to Master of Science in Nursing and Post Master’s Certificate.

All of these programs are available in Boerne as web-blended classes, with the majority of classes held online through Blackboard software, but three times during a semester the instructors travel to Boerne to meet with students. At the present, these classes meet in the Kendall County Economic Development Corporation’s conference room at the GVTC building, 1221 S. Main St., Suite 100 in Boerne.

th class day (Feb. 7) of the semester which is the official class day census for all universities. This record setting enrollment includes a 32.9% increase, or a total of 711 students enrolled within the College of Graduate Studies breaking last year’s spring 2010 record breaking semester with an enrollment of 535 graduate students.
