Lady Dillo Basketball Report
Thursday, March 17, 2011 • Posted March 17, 2011

Several Lady Dillos received District Honors and now the results can be released since our season is over. Our success on the basketball court was great but an even greater achievement was when our five seniors were all named to the THSCA (Texas High School Coaches Association)

Academic All State Team. Only seniors are allowed to be nominated for the THSCA and I’m sure we could’ve had more if underclassmen were allowed to be nominated.

The five seniors who made the All State Academic Team were Jaena Edwards, Johna Reavis, Haylee Oliver, Danessa Vasquez and Tarah Crosby. Like the old saying goes, "You can’t play ball forever so you better have something to fall back on" and I know that these guys will do well in college and be a success at whatever career they choose down the road. Our entire team made the 6-2A Academic All District Team. The recipients for this award are the five mentioned above along with Ashley Pulatie, Paige Faught, Alexa Maxcey, Karlee Cromer, Joannah Crosby, and Kayla Kutin. Now for the District basketball awards. The District MVP of 6-2A was Haylee Oliver. First Team All District Selections were Danessa Vasquez and Haylee Oliver. Johna Reavis was a Second Team recipient and Jaeana Edwards, Karlee Cromer and Joannah Crosby all received Honorable Mention recognition.

After our state tournament game we also received some news on some other post season awards. Haylee Oliver was named to the TGCA (Texas Girls Coaches Association) All State Team and she was also selected to play in the TGCA All Star game where she will play on the A-3A South Team. Danessa Vasquez was also selected to play in the Maypearl Roundup All Star Classic which will be played this Saturday in Maypearl. I believe Danessa plays at 2:30.

Congrats to all these young ladies for their awards on the hardwood and in the classroom.
