Elm Grove Echoes

We are in need of rain in the worst way, but there is none in the forecast for the next week.

Only four members were present to work at the Busy Bee quilting last Tuesday. They were Fay and Gloria Lusty, Irene Hammett and Carol Orr. Marilyn Suber and I visited for a while. They were finishing a quilt for the VFD and Billie McKinnerney will hem it for them. Gloria brought a quilt to be put in next.

Please remember the gospel singing this Saturday night at the community center. Everyone is invited to come and sing, play an instrument or just listen. We will try to raise the roof on that old school house!

There were only two tables of 42 players last Saturday night at the tournament. Bill Harlow and Butch Webb barely squeaked by and beat out Ann Harlow and Donna Webb for first place by 1/2 of a game.

Our entire area is saddened by the passing of Jr. Evans. He had been in bad health for quite some time and the Lord took him home last Friday night. Visitation with the family was Monday night from 6-8 PM at the Howell Doran Funeral Home in San Saba. The funeral services were Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Richland Springs with the burial at the Varga Chapel Cemetery. The Evans family moved to the Elm Grove community when Jr. was just a boy. He grew up in the Elm Grove community and was active in every aspect of it. He was a member of the original roping club when it was organized in the 50’s. The rodeo which we still have every August stems from that roping club. Jr. will be missed by many and we send our deepest sympathy to Bonnie and Melissa and the rest of the family.
