Spring Break is in full force and people from all over have filled up the fishing camps and the Bend State Park. This is the time of year that makes the population around Bend increase for a short time.

Bad Bob’s store is a very busy place right now selling his burgers, bait and other items. He reported that the river is low, but they are catching White bass, crappie and catfish. He predicts that next week after the crowd of Spring Break people leave the fishing will be even better.

While Jim Hicks was out and about this past week, he ran into a friend Bill Boyd a former resident of Bend who is now living in Kermit, Texas and is a school principal there. Bill and a friend from Kermit were going to the river to get in some fishing.

Gennifer Brister reported that Dillon and Dean competed in the first high point series of the year this past Saturday in Lampasas. Both of the boys did very well at the event. Dillon competed in the age group of 7-10 years old and did very well. Dean competed for the first time with his new horse in the six and under age group and did very well. Tommy, Becky Grant along with their son Guy and his wife Jennifer and son Tyler of Salado was there to cheer the boys on. After the event the families gathered at their trailers on the rodeo grounds and celebrated Michael’s birthday. They enjoyed eating the Red Devils’ food cake made by Gennifer, which just happens to be his favorite cake.

Last week Jackie and Charlene Brister supplied the fried fish and trimmings for the annual Hill Country Resource Conservation & Development Area, Inc. meeting held in the San Saba Civic Center. Grady and Diane Gibson attended the meeting as Grady is a member of the board of directors. Bill and Jo Price also attended the event. Everyone seemed to really enjoy the programs that were presented and of course the meal.

Rusty Cobern and son Mason along with one of Masons friends and his dad were in over the weekend and did some fishing in the creek. They had good luck and caught fish which they released to be caught again some day.

Rufus Cobern is still nursing his broken rib, but up and around. Jeffery, Tanya and Ashley Chalfant of Cedar Park visited as Ashley is on Spring break. Ashley now has the cast off of her left arm, but still must keep her arm in a sling. She has had to improvise with her right hand since she wasn’t able to write with her left.

Bernice Porter is recuperating at home after a stay in the hospital at Lampasas. The Bend Community meeting will be held Saturday, March 19, at 6:00 p.m. with a pot luck dinner. Everyone is welcome to attend and asked to bring a dish and/or dessert. Come and enjoy the entertainment which will be provided by a family group from Goldthwaite.

Happy birthday goes out to Calvin Henniger who will celebrate his birthday March 18, to Tyler Lackey whose birthday is March 20, to Autumn Edwards who will celebrate a birthday March 22 and last but not least Justin McCoury whose birthday is March 24.
