Jack V. Gates, 84, of San Saba, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2008 in San Saba. He was born May 3, 1924, in Mart, Texas, the son of John Thomas Gates and Ardelia Mitchell Gates. In 1943, Jack Volley Gates and Amie Wallett were married in Bakersfield, California. She preceded him in death in 1995. Jack worked as a conductor for the railroad.

He is survived by two sons, Jack Gates Jr. and Michael John Gates, both of Florida; one daughter, Jae Gates of Florida; three grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Angela Gates of Chicago, IL; three sisters: Mrs. L.S. (Ila Mae) Boren of San Saba; Medene Dossey of Temple, Texas; and Emma Gene Thompson of Belton, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one brother, A.H. Gates.

Services were held Monday, June 9, 2008 at the Howell-Doran Funeral Home Chapel with Danny Duggan officiating. Interment followed at the High Valley Cemetery. There was no service at the cemetery.

The family requests that memorials be made to the donor's favorite charity.

Services were under the direction of the Howell-Doran Funeral Home.
