The weather so far has been up and down with of course the wind. Woke up Saturday with a temp in the twenties, and lots of wind. It did warm up some, but the wind made it feel colder. Sunday was another cool morning, Monday not too bad with no wind. The nurseries have their tomato, pepper and vegetable plants for sale. Some of the garden spots have been plowed and onions planted and of course there are always a few that wait until the last moment to get their gardens ready to plant. Everyone is familiar with the saying it is "too wet to plow," well that is not the case around the area. Everyone is praying for rain. The little showers that came this last week were nice but not enough.

Last week Bill and Jo Price made a trip to Midland to attend the ARCO retirees’ luncheon and catch up on all the news on everyone. Sunday afternoon they still had on their roller skates and was in Clyde to visit granddaughter and family.

There was a large turn out Saturday for the memorial for John Hicks held at the Bend Community Center. All the tables were full and standing room only. The ladies of the community provided the food to make sure that everyone had

plenty to eat. People came from all over to attend. Some who came from out of state was Katie Ann Lamb who came from Ooltewah, Tennessee and her sister Gloria Wayne Selby who came from Paradise, California and Carman Morales from Jacksonville, Florida and many from all parts of Texas, just too many to mention all by name.

Mebbie Eckhoff called in early Monday morning with the results of the Houston Stock show that she and Leon attended Saturday. She was thrilled to report that she received the Grand Champion award on her Rambouillet Ram and Ewe. Grandson Ethan received a first on his Rambouillet Ram as did Robbie on his Rambouillet Ewe. Congratulations go out to the Eckhoff family.

Waymon Saul and Lucille Underwood of Austin spent the afternoon Sunday visiting with her Aunt Lola Morris and catching up on all the news.

Louise Barefoot of Lampasas is up and around and out of the hospital. She attended Church yesterday in Lampasas and was looking good.

Last week it was reported that Jimmy Grant had a birthday, well some Jimmy may have, but it should have stated that Tommy Grant had a birthday.

Tommy Grant competed in the Corey Ross Team Roping that took place in Liberty Hill, Texas. Tommy is a heeler and he made it to the top 25 teams out of 186 total teams. Tommy Grant is the father of Gennifer Brister.

Sunday Michael, Gennifer Brister and sons Dillon and Dean went to Salado and celebrated the birthday of Tommy Grant.

The Bend Community meeting will be Saturday, February 19, at 6:00 p.m. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish and/or dessert. Entertainment will be provided by a group from Goldthwaite. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy the entertainment.

Happy birthday goes out to Michael Brister whose birthday is March 11, to Mary Jane Dennis who will celebrate a birthday March 12, to Jordan Messer whose birthday is March 13, to Jo Price and Shelly Rose Freeland whose birthday is March 14, and a happy birthday to Laura Beth Hicks whose birthday is March 17, which just happens to be St. Patrick’s Day.
