Marcian Locker

Marcian Locker, 89, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Friday, March 4, 2011. Marcian Evelyn Rose Jacobs was born December 31, 1921 in Tracey, Minnesota. She has been a Houston resident since 1963, and an active member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Mrs. Locker graduated High School in Virgil, South Dakota as Valedictorian. She went on to become a Registered Nurse graduating from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1943.

Marcian met and later married Albert L. Locker on January 5, 1946 in Seattle, Washington. She was working as an industrial nurse in an aircraft factory during the war effort while Al was stationed there. They moved to Dallas after the war, and Marcian continued working as a hospital pediatric nurse. After a time, she made her two children her life’s work including doing volunteer work at their schools. In 1963, they moved to Houston where Marcian was employed as a public health nurse for the City of Houston. After 37 years of marriage, Marcian faced the loss of her beloved husband Al. In 1985, she retired from the City of Houston after 22 years of service. She was a member of the Legion of Mary, Texas Nurses Association, Arabia Temple Patrol Ladies, and the Assistance League of Houston. Marcian was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed many years of weekly gatherings with friends playing Bridge, creating beautiful beading crafts, and sewing for the Crippled Children’s Hospital. Family events were filled with joy and laughter as she encouraged interaction with cards games and dominos. As the matriarch of her family, she provided great spiritual and familial leadership.

Mrs. Locker is preceded in death by her husband, Albert. She will be missed but always remembered by her loving family, including her brother, Donald Jacob; son, Albert L. Locker Jr. and his wife Suzanne; daughter, Barbara Ann Hartsock and her husband Warren; grandchildren: Patrick Heaton and his wife Samantha, Amy Villarreal and her husband Omar, Albert "Bubba" Locker, III and his wife Amy; four step grandchildren: Christie Loyd, Kelly Loyd, Daniel Hartsock and David Hartsock; eight great-grandchildren: Joshua, Katie, Hannah, Luke, and Sophia Villarreal, Allison Locker, Sydney and Bailey Heaton; six step great-grandchildren: Hayden and Parker Hartsock, Jayden and Kyla Hartsock, Jackson and Emma Rose Loyd; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wednesday, March 9th, a Rosary will be said at 5:30 PM, followed by Visitation from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, at the Howell Doran Funeral Home in San Saba, Texas. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in San Saba, Texas, on Thursday, March 10th at 11:30 AM. Graveside services will be held following at Locker Cemetery, Locker, Texas. Pallbearers will be Albert Locker III, Patrick Heaton, Warren Hartsock, Omar Villarreal, Joshua Villarreal, and Kelly Loyd. Honorary Pallbearers are Daniel Hartsock, and David Hartsock. In lieu of usual remembrances, contributions may be sent to Catholic Charities (www.catholiccharities.org) or the American Cancer Society.
