Thursday, March 10, 2011 • Posted March 10, 2011

The Board of Trustees of San Saba ISD held a Special Meeting on March 7th at 3:00 p.m. in the library of the High School. President Darrin Barker called the meeting to order and established a quorum. Board member Bob Whitten was absent from the meeting.

Presentations were given by three architectural companies for the proposed SSISD building project. The Board set up these interviews to get estimates so that the community would have information for the Bond issue for SSISD when voting in May.

The first presentation was given by Randy Fromberg, of Fromberg Associates from Austin. Randy gave stats of the company, pictures of 10 schools they showed as project examples with comments, and an outline of their suggestions for the SSISD building project.

The second presentation was given by John D. Shiver and two associates from Shiver Architects of Denton, Texas. They gave their firm’s profile and services as Education Building Specialists, Experience and Philosphy. Pictures of 19 school projects they have completed were discussed and they gave A. B. C. and D. options for the SSISD building project.

The third presentation was given by Mike Nelson and three associates of NR2 Architects,Inc. of Dallas. Pictures of approximately 18 school projects including one in Lometa, flashed on the screen as he gave information about their company. Their presentation for SSISD was very detailed with computer images of their suggestions for the SSISD building project.

During a short discussion of the three presentations, it was mentioned that all three presentations involved renovating the "Red Gym" instead of tearing it down.

President Barker announced a break for supper. After the break, Superintendent, Leigh Ann Glaze, introduced Paul Waldrop of Waldrop Construction in Brownwood. Waldrop Construction had the contract for the Commerical National Bank in San Saba which was recently built. Paul gave information about six options to select an architectural company and construction manager for the SSISD project. He commented that the "Red Gym" needed some renovation and was a good solid building.

The next regular Board meeting has been changed to Thursday, March 10th at 3 p.m.

Time adjustments will be made at the next meeting for closing school on Friday, March 4th.

People are needed to help get information to the voters for the Bond Election.
