Thursday, March 10, 2011 • Posted March 10, 2011

The San Saba Tennis Team advances to the State Team Tennis Tournament for the 15

th straight year in a row. This is also the 19th time the tennis team has gone to the state team tournament since team tennis started in 1983. At the regional tournament held in Leander this past weekend, March 4-5 the San Saba tennis team came in second place. The top two teams advance to the state tournament on March 11-12 held in the Round Rock area.

In the regional quarterfinals San Saba defeated Godley 15 to 4. In the semifinals San Saba defeated Lago Vista 14 to 1. In the finals San Saba lost a very close match to Brock by a score of 10 to 7. In a playback for second place the tennis team came back and defeated Florence 12 to 7. Playing at the regional tournament were Lauren Dawson, Brittany Moreno, Regan Hartranft, Heather Wilcox, Joely Haverland, Morgan Jimenez, Josie Dawson, Marissa Anaya, Diego Gonzales, Kobe Cisneroz, Marshall McIntosh, Josh Raiford, Houston Casco, Jose Vega, Diego Lara, Aaron Krueger, and Jairo Casco.

I am very proud of this group of kids as they fought hard at regionals to gain a spot at the state tournament. The state tournament will be held on March 11-12. The tournament will be held at eight sites in the Round Rock area. The team will play four matches. Times are at 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday. We will not know who we play first or where until the coaches meeting on Thursday night.
