Hello Armadillo Fans! It is truly great to be an Armadillo, isn’t it? We have so much to be thankful for in our community. As a school administrator who absolutely loves kids and loves her job, I have to thank everyone in San Saba for their support of our school and especially for supporting our students. The outpouring of support for our Lady Armadillo Basketball team has been incredible. The number of people who traveled with us throughout the playoffs and especially to Midland was impressive! As well, the number of folks asking for tickets to the state tournament game is overwhelming. With that said, I want to explain the reason we are letting school out on Friday, March 4. Students and parents were notified on Monday, February 28, that SSISD would turn out school on Friday, March 4, 2011 so that staff and students could attend the State Lady Armadillo Basketball game. On Saturday, as administrators, we began taking a count of staff and students who would be attending the Friday game. With this number in mind and the likelihood that many of our substitutes would be attending the game, we quickly knew it would be difficult to get adequate coverage. As well, the assumed low daily attendance would hurt our school funding and our attendance rate. When a decision such as this is made there is no way we are going to please everyone in the community. It is our intention to make the best decision with the best information that we have at the time. How will we make up the missed Friday since we are already using our bad weather days? We will be writing a waiver to the Texas Education Agency to make up the missed instructional time by extending the school day for a determined amount of time and number of days. If we move forward to make up the day in this manner, we will not have to go to school another Saturday. Please call the Central Office if you have any questions.

Please visit www.san-saba.net to view events and find information you need to know about SSISD. As well, don’t forget to sign up for the "alerts" available from the website, and don’t miss the opportunity to sign up for the Parent Portal giving parents access to grades and attendance. Parents, let us know how we can help you the first day of school all the way until the last day of school!!
