San Saba Rotary Club provides Dictionaries to 3rd Grade Students
Thursday, March 3, 2011 • Posted March 3, 2011

In a day and age of technological advancement, the item which has caused a stir amongst 3rd graders in San Saba County this past week was a dictionary! Yes, the kind with words on each page that can be, explored, underlined, and read for many years to come. San Saba Rotary Club representatives have traveled to all of the San Saba County schools and provided dictionaries to each of the 3rd grade students. The students quickly wrote their names in the front of their dictionaries upon receipt, and then quickly buried their heads to find new words and tidbits of information that will help to increase their vocabulary and understanding of just what it is they are reading. The annual distribution of dictionaries is exciting for the Rotarians and especially for the students as they receive their very own copy of a tool that will aid in their reading ability and creativity through the use of new words. Over 1.3 million children throughout America have received a dictionary from volunteers just like the local Rotary Club who have participated in the Dictionary Project. Thank you to San Saba ISD, Cherokee ISD, and Richland Springs ISD for the opportunity to put a personal dictionary in the hands of each 3rd grade student so they can become confident writers, active readers, and creative thinkers!
