John A. Hicks Sr.

John A. Hicks Sr., age 71 was received into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Wednesday February 23, 2011 in Burleson, TX. He was born to Robert and Jennie May Hicks on December 8, 1939 in Bend, TX.

Memorial service: 2:00 p.m. March 5, 2011 at the Bend Community Center at Bend, TX.

Services were also held 2:00 p.m. February 28, 2011 at the Retta Baptist Church in Burleson, TX.

Internment: Colony Cemetery in San Saba at a future date.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Jennie May Hicks; brothers, Robert Lee Hicks, Douglas Hicks and Tommy Wayne Hicks.

John married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Clark on September 3, 1961 in Bend, TX. In six months they would have celebrated their 50

He was a long time employee of Charlie Phillips Trucking and American Flat Glass Co., and retired in May of 2006.

John was a member of the Retta Baptist Church and attended faithfully as his health permitted. He was an avid fan of the Texas Ranger baseball team and attended many games throughout the years. This year was a joy for him because "his team" was in the World Series. He also was a big reader of the Fort Worth Star Telegram and was knowledgeable about many world events. John’s cheerful attitude and friendly smile will sorely be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Survivors: wife, Nancy Hicks of Alvarado, TX; son, John A. Hicks Jr. of Bastrop, TX; daughter, Jacqueline (Jacque) Hicks of Palmer, TX; grandson, Michael Morales of Alvarado, TX; brothers, Raymond Hicks, James Hicks, Roland Hicks and Paul Hicks; sisters, Willie Morgan, Shirley Hicks, Pam Hicks, Kathy Carroll and Roxie Schlegal; extended family, Carmen Morales and son, Christopher; Candie Otts and sons, Matthew and Micah; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
