Lady Dillo Basketball Report
Thursday, February 24, 2011 • Posted February 24, 2011

Man what a fun week!!! Well, your Lady Dillos have strengthened their pulse and are still "ALIVE" in the playoffs. We had two big wins last week over Merkel and Harper and next face an old nemesis in the form of the Bangs Lady Dragons. When this article comes out we’ll either be headed to Midland or getting ready for spring sports but regardless what a ride the last two weeks have been!!!

Last Tuesday we got the opportunity to play in the Junnell Center on the campus of Angelo State and what a treat it was. If you’ve never been to a game there then you’re missing out on one of the best kept secrets in college athletics. The Angelo State staff was a very gracious host and we pulled out a big win downing the Lady Badgers by the score of 46-39. We started the game off with a bang as Danessa Vasquez hit a 3 to start the game and then when the quarter had ended we were up 19-6. So much for big arena jitters as we played with a great deal of confidence in the opening period. Everyone of our starters scored in the first period, Jaena Edwards had two big buckets, Tarah added a 3 ball, Haylee threw in a couple and Johna Reavis added two points as well. Merkel got back in the game a bit and hit a shot at the buzzer of the second period to close the lead to nine. Merkel is a good team and Clay Barnett is a great coach. I knew they’d make a run at us and they did just as I guessed. The Lady Badgers cut the lead to six early in the third quarter but we "righted the ship" so to speak and pushed the lead back to double digits. The last quarter we were up 14 at one point and then ran out the clock to bring home a Bi-District Championship. Joannah Crosby and Karlee Cromer gave us some big minutes off the bench as well which were crucial in this game.

Last Friday before a huge Lady Dillo crowd in Llano, America we captured the Area Championship downing the Lady Longhorns of Harper by a score of 55-20. Once again we got out of the gate early and never looked back. We wereup 18-4 after one quarter and took a 34-6 lead in at halftime. Every Lady Dillo contributed and we hit 11 three pointers throughout the game. Nessa lead us in threepointers with four while Ashley Pulatie nailed three of her own as well. It was cool to see everyone get to play and contribute. Some of these girls don’t get a ton ofminutes at times during the year but their role is crucial to our program whether it be getting minutes, providing a look of the opposing team, or supporting each teammate from the bench throughout the game. It takes every LadyDillo for us to be successful and Coach Stowe and I are proud of every girl and what they bring to our program. Your Lady Dillos are as follows- Johna Reavis, Tarah Crosby, Haylee Oliver, Danessa Vasquez, Jaeana Edwards, Ashley Pulatie, Paige Faught, Alexa Maxcey, Joannah Crosby, Karlee Cromer, and Kayla Kutin and we can’t forget our main man Marshal "Dillon" McIntosh and our manager Jared Steiger. All of you are greatly appreciated.

The next game will be a grinder. We’ll have played Bangs on Tuesday for the right to travel west to Midland. We’ve split games with them and they are really good and well coached by Rex Beck. Hopefully, we’ll relax and play and "STAY ALIVE".

I have a few SHOUTOUTS. My first SHOUTOUT goes to Hermina Paredez. I found out a few weeks back that Hermina was leaving to go to work at Brownwood. I’d like to thank you for the job you have done in our White Gym over the past five years. You’ll be missed and Good Luck to you as well. The second SHOUTOUT once again goes to our FANS. You guys were awesome with a Capital "A". Take a bow my friends!!! We’ve had loads of fun the last two weeks. Take Care and God Bless to each and all. Peace Out all my fellow Dillo brethren!!! MOE and Phil 4:13!!!
