Repeating Those Vows
Thursday, February 24, 2011 • Posted February 24, 2011

I recently noticed in a local newspaper where a couple celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary and renewed their wedding vows. My wife and I also went to a two day marriage retreat and there we reaffirmed or renewed our marriage vows to each other. Those two events reminded me of something in the Bible. First, marriage was not mans idea but Gods and it was to be a binding permanent agreement, covenant or compact between two people made before God, (Genesis 2:24, Matthew 10:8). The idea of covenant or permanent agreement originated with God and was used for more things than marriage. Due to His very nature, (honest and a promise keeper) God has always kept His covenants. God promised Noah He would protect him and his family from the flood, (Genesis 6:17&18). Over the many centuries God has made many covenants with many people but today we live in the era of the new covenant, (Hebrews 9:15-17). The new covenant was inaugurated with the crucified body and sealed with the shed blood of Jesus Christ, (Luke 22:19&20, Hebrews 12:24). Everyone that has called upon Jesus Christ for forgiveness and made Him Lord and Savior has been set free from the penalty of sin and has the hope of eternal life with God. I think we should every now and then reaffirm or recommit our love and dedication to the Lord Jesus, (Hebrews 12:28). See you in Church next Sunday.
