February 11th was the end of the fourth six-week grading period. It’s hard to believe that this school year is two-thirds complete. Please look for student report cards this week. If you did not receive a report card, please ask your child, or call the school at 452-3427. It’s been a great school year and a great six-weeks with fewer discipline problems.

The Board of Trustees will meet for a regular monthly meeting on February 21st. The public is cordially invited to attend board meetings.

Nelson Smith has been busy escorting students to the UIL Cross X Debate competition in Bangs. Stephen Fowler and Brennen McGinty have qualified to go to state competition in Cross-X Debate. The team of Thomas Fowler and Patrick Phillips are district runner-up in Cross X Debate. With four more rounds of Cross X Debate, they too can compete at state competition. Good luck to all four students. Melanie Smith is once again serving as a volunteer to help students achieve success in UIL competition.

Patsy Hall is preparing students for the UIL one act play contest. Rehearsals are ongoing for this year’s play, August: Osage County. The cast and crew traveled to Austin’s Connally High School last Friday for their first performance. Break a leg!

Gerald McKee was in San Antonio this past week with students who are participating in the hog, lamb, steer, and goat competitions.

The high school boys are 3rd in district in basketball. The boys will meet Blanket in the first round of the playoffs. Everyone enjoyed watching all the junior high and high school basketball players on the floor this year. Thanks to Coach Starr, Coach Lewis, Coach Rogers, Coach Brand, and all the athletes for another great year of basketball. Good luck to the varsity boys in the play-off rounds.

Sue Ransom is busy practicing with the tennis team after school on the tennis courts. Students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities. Thanks to all the coaches and sponsors and volunteers who dedicate themselves to student success.

The 4-H kids have a little note that says Kindness In Students Spreads. If you see them being kind you may sign the back of the note. When they get 2 different signatures of 2 different instances in which they have been kind in some way, they earn a prize from our 4-H sponsor, Valerie Gossett.

It’s great to see our community supporting students in their efforts to achieve. We have a great community, students, teachers and staff. It takes everyone working together to achieve success. Thanks for all you do!

It was a good thing we did not have school on Wednesday, Feb. 9th, as the power was out from noon-4:00 p.m. We have used our two bad weather days and we will now attend school on April 22nd and May 9th.st. Students in grades 4, 7, 9, 10 and 11 will test on March 1st. We need 100% attendance on March 1st. nd at San Saba Gym
