In a clap of thunder, Betty Martin, age 76, of San Saba, TX, passed from the sight of mortal man and into the house of the Lord on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Hendrick Health System in Abilene, TX.

Betty was born on February 9, 1935 in San Saba, TX to Charles H. Roberts and Elizabeth Sowders Roberts. At age three and a half, after the death of her mother, she was adopted by Clarence Carrell and Naomi Squires Carrell. Betty and Wilton Martin were united in marriage on September 5, 1953 in San Saba, TX.

Bebbie, as her grandchildren called her, was a sweet, caring and fun loving grandmother. She was also a mother, wife, mother-in-law, sister and friend. She loved to travel and take her grandchildren places and wanted to be involved in everything her grandchildren were doing. Betty was a member of San Saba’s First Baptist Church, Pierian Study Club and a former volunteer at the San Saba State School. Her love for the Lord was evident by her many kind deeds. She was loved by all who knew her and she will be greatly missed.

Betty is survived by her husband, Wilton Martin of San Saba, TX; her sons, Buck Martin and his wife, Sheila of San Saba, TX; Steve Martin and his wife Lisa, of San Saba, TX; her daughter, Denise Pool of Anchorage, AK; her grandchildren, Mitchell Martin, Kirby Martin, Merideth Martin and Kally Martin; her sisters, Anna Northington of Round Rock, TX and Sally Moore of Grand Junction, CO; several nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held on Monday, February 14, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of San Saba, TX with Rev. Sam Crosby and Rev. Jack Riley officiating. Interment was at China Creek Cemetery. Visitation was on Sunday, Februay 13, 2011 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM.
