The San Saba County Commissioners Court met on Monday, February 14th at 9:00 a.m. in the County Judge’s Chambers. County Judge Byron Theodosis called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone to the meeting. Commissioner Rickey Lusty gave the invocation followed by everyone joining for the American and Texas flags.
Johnnie Shahan, representing the San Saba VFD, addressed the court. Johnnie gave information regarding the increase of fires when the Burn Ban is lifted and the concern of agriculture burns that have gotten out of control. Sheriff Allen Brown gave the following list of Emergency calls from January 23rd through January 31st: 12 EMS calls; 2 MVC’s w/FD response; 12 grass fires. From February 1st through February 7th after Burn Ban re-established: 6 EMS calls; 6 MVC’s w/3 FD response; 1 grass fire; 1 structure fire. February 8th through February 13th - 1 grass fire. Victor Cross, from the Cherokee VFD was in attendance at the court also and a representative from the Elm Grove VFD called the Sheriff’s Department regarding Burn Ban. Marsha Hardy, County Coordinator, reported that a Cattle Magazine will have an important article regarding a controlled Burn. After hearing these reports, the Court discussed the situation and did not remove the Burn Ban.
Sheriff Brown distributed a list of the new numbering system for all San Saba Emergency Responders that will be going to a 3 digit identification number effective March 1st. The Commissioners, employees and equipment will be numbered and will give their list to the Sheriff’s office.
The Court approved the Elevator Inspection to be done by the company that has done the inspection for many years. Administrative Assistant, Cathi Miles, will make the arrangements for the inspection to be done in March.
The Commissioners approved the following items:
1. The minutes of the previous Commissioners Court meeting.
2. The Clerk’s report by County Clerk, Kim Wells.
3. The Treasurer’s report by County Treasurer, Gayla Hawkins.
4. The Justice of the Peace report by Judge Les Dawson that included an increase in DWI’s.
5. The Sheriff’s Report by Sheriff Allen Brown and the jail report verified by Commissioner Kenley Kroll.
6. Payment of bills presented by County Treasurer.
The following non-action departmental reports were received: County Judge; County Extension Agents; County Indigent Health Care Program Director; County Grant Writer; County EMS billing; County Emergency Management Coordinator; County On-Site Sewage Facility Management Coordinator; County 9-1-1 Coordinator; County Trapper.
Treasurer Gayla Hawkins will verify a new EMS employee at the next court meeting.
The next Commissioners Court will be Friday, February 25th at 9 a.m.
Judge Theodosis adjourned the meeting.
