The Bible is a book unlike any other. There were 40 men who wrote over 1600 years and yet the Bible is completely consistent. There is not any other book that could make that claim. Moses wrote the first five books of the Old Testament. These would have been about 1400 BC (not an exact date). In this book there is a prophecy of Jesus in Genesis 3:15. This prophesy states, "And I will put enmity between you [Satan] and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, and you shall bruise him on the heel." (NASB) This is the first prophecy of Jesus.

Around seven hundred years before the birth of Christ the prophet Isaiah stated, "Therefore, the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel." (7:14) Moses and Isaiah did not know one another. They never conversed about what either should write. In the back of my Bible it shows forty-four different prophesies made by ten different writers from Moses through Malachi. Again, these men did not know one another so how do we get a book, with no contradictions, and EVERY prophesy fulfilled in Jesus Christ? The simple answer is God wrote this Book.

Paul wrote to the young evangelist Timothy, "All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." (2 Tim. 3:16-17) Now it all makes sense. The Creator of the universe gave us His Book with instructions to follow. He guided these men to pen the words we read. That’s how we can put our faith in this Book.

It was Peter who said, "But know this first of all, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God." (2 Pet. 1:20-21) Did you note that it was not human will but God who spoke?

The word of God is important to all of our lives. We may not be able to depend on some magazine or other book, but we can always know God’s word is truth. Let’s make sure we read and study this Book.
