Armadillo Basketball Report
Thursday, January 27, 2011 • Posted January 27, 2011

The Armadillos faced the number one and two teams in the district last week. On January 18th, the Armadillos traveled to Hico (7-0). Hico is a well balanced team with height inside and a couple of good guards outside, and plays very good man-to-man defense. The Dillos struggled with their shooting and only shot 15% from the field. Hico won the contest 59-15. Scoring for the Dillos: Tucker Cromer - 7, Zack Davis - 4, Luke Cox - 2, and Jose Vega - 2.

On January 21, the Dillos hosted the Comanche Indians. Comanche is a pressing/fast break team that likes to run up and down the floor. Their press gave us fits causing us to turn the ball over 29 times. It's hard to win with that many turnovers. In the first quarter, Comanche took an 18-13 lead over the Dillos. Midway through the second quarter, we cut Comanche's lead to 5, and went in at the half down 21-29.

In the third quarter, Comanche's defensive press started to take its toll. We committed several turnovers in the third quarter and only managed to score 4 points to the Indian's 15. And in the fourth quarter, the Indians outscored the Dillos 15-10. Comanche won the game 59-35.

The difference in the game was our turnover and Comanche making eight 3-pointers. We played ok for the first half and I was pleased with our effort and going in only down 8 at the half. But, we have to be able to play for four quarters.

Tucker Cromer had a good night, scoring 15 points. Others scoring were, Luke Cox - 6, Zack Davis and Clayton Perry - 5, and Ryan Pannell - 4.

We have now completed the first round of District play. Right now, Hico (7-0) is leading. Comanche (6-1) is second, Dublin (5-2) is third, Bangs (4-3) is fourth, San Saba (3-4) is fifth, Hamilton (2-5) is sixth, Coleman (1-6) is seventh and Early (0-7) is eighth.

We will have played Early when this comes out and will host Dublin on Friday, January 28.
