Gast named Employee of the Month at January San Saba City Council Meeting

The San Saba City Council met for a regular meeting on Monday, January 17th at 6 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers. Mayor Ken Jordan called the meeting to order, announced a quorum with all members of the Council present, and gave the invocation with everyone joining for the pledges to the American and Texas flags.

The January Employee of the Month was awarded to Paul Gast who has worked for the Water Department approximately eight months. Paul received a $25 gift certificate at a local restaurant, a day off with pay and his name on the plaque.

Wayne Yarbrough, Water Dept. Supervisor, introduced Jose Romero, a new employee to the Water Department.

The following consent agenda items were approved:

1. Minutes from the December 13th council meeting.

2. Payment of bills presented to Council.

3. Resolution No. 2011-01 designating the San Saba News and Star as the official town newspaper.

Action was taken on the following items:

A. Awarded the contract for sidewalk improvements to the Father’s Daughter Landscaping, San Angelo, the lowest of two bids.

B. Made changes to EDC Bylaws as approved in EDC meeting held December 21st.

C. The next Council meeting will be Tuesday, February 15th instead of Feb. 21st.

Gale Ivy, City Secretary, was congratulated by the Council for earning a Certified Texas Municipal Clerk Certification.

Reports were given by City Manager, Stan Weik; Electric Dept. Supervisor, Larry Alderson; Water Dept. Supervisor, Wayne Yarbrough; Director of Public Works, Scott Glaze; Supervisor of Parks, Farrel Whitley; Director of Economic Development/Tourism, Tony Guidroz; and City Secretary, Gale Ivy.

Mayor Ken Jordan adjourned the meeting at 6:25 p.m.
